Let’s be real—yes, skiing and planning a ski vacation have a lot of moving parts. It can feel complicated at first, but you’re already committed to your ski vacation. Does this course teach me how to ski?
Skiing is an experiential sport—you have to feel the snow under your skis and the wind on your face to truly learn it. This course doesn’t teach you how to ski, but it prepares you for your first ski lesson. You’ll be paying hundreds of dollars and using your precious vacation time for that lesson, so this course ensures you show up ready and progress faster. It’s the perfect complement to your on-snow instruction.
Do I have to take a ski lesson?
Yes, we highly recommend signing up for a ski lesson. While this course is designed by a certified ski instructor, it doesn’t replace the hands-on experience of an actual lesson. Snow 101 is here to prepare you, but your ski lesson will take you to the next level!
Who is Snow 101 designed for?
Snow 101 is perfect for first-time or beginner skiers who want to plan their ski vacation with ease and learn the fundamentals of skiing. It’s especially tailored for adults who are new to the sport and want to feel confident on the slopes.
Do I need to be physically fit to start skiing?
You don’t need to be an athlete, but a basic level of fitness helps. Snow 101 includes 10-minute workouts designed to strengthen your body and prepare you for the physical demands of skiing.
I’ve tried skiing before and struggled. Will this course still help me?
Absolutely! If your first ski experience was overwhelming or didn’t go as planned, Snow 101 will help you prepare better this time. We’ll cover what to expect, how to avoid common mistakes, and build your confidence so you can enjoy the experience without stress or fear.
How long will it take to go through the course?
Snow 101 is designed to be efficient and easy to follow. You can go through the entire course in just a few hours, but we encourage you to take your time practicing the workouts and tips before your trip for maximum results.
Is this course suitable for families with kids?
While Snow 101 focuses on first-time adult skiers, we do offer insights into how to plan your trip if you’re traveling with children. There’s even a bonus section on choosing ski programs for kids so you can focus on your own skiing while knowing they’re in good hands.
Do I need special equipment to take this course?
No special equipment is needed! This course helps you understand what to rent or buy for your ski vacation, so there’s no need to purchase anything in advance. You’ll learn what’s essential and what’s optional, helping you make informed decisions.
Can I access the course content while I’m on my ski vacation?
Yes! Snow 101 is fully accessible online, so you can revisit lessons anytime you need a refresher, even during your trip. Whether you want to brush up on how to carry your skis or get last-minute recovery tips, you’ll have it all at your fingertips.
What if I’m afraid of heights or skiing too fast?
It’s completely normal to feel nervous, especially about speed or heights. Snow 101 includes mindset exercises and techniques to help you conquer these fears, so you can enjoy the slopes at your own pace and feel safe and comfortable.
You have everything you need in this course.
And I’ll teach you everything you need to know to get ready for your snow vacation.
This course won’t teach you how to rip the mountain in half like Lindsey Vonn—and you know that!
We meet you right where you are, with one focus: enjoying the mountains.
You’re doing laps on the bunny hill? You’re a skier!
You’re tackling your first green run from the top? You’re a skier!
Strapping on your ski boots and stepping onto the snow? That counts as a ski day.
There’s no competition here —just the joy of nature, fresh air, and having fun on the slopes.
We’re here to guide you through the tricky parts and make sure you savor every moment of your ski journey.
Your Instructor—Ceylan
I have seen girlfriends and wives crying on the side of a slope out of anger and disappointment. Her partner calls out: “Follow me…” “Why can’t you follow me…” Your legs can’t hold you straight. You’re sweating cold. You see a cliff 50 yards away. You’re frozen with fear. You just want to get down the hill gracefully and throw your skis in the trash. It doesn’t have to be that way!
I’ve seen people with a 2-inch gaper gap who end up on Jerry of the Day. It doesn’t have to be that way! I’ve seen people faceplanting off a chairlift because they didn’t keep their tips just one inch higher. It doesn’t have to be that way! Skiing (and ski vacationing) is complicated. But it doesn’t have to be!
My mission is to make skiing more accessible. It doesn’t matter how much money you have in your pocket. If you don’t know how to pick suitable gloves, your ski day could end with frostbite. It doesn’t have to be that way!
It doesn’t matter how fancy your ski gear is—if you don’t know how to carry your skis and helmet or walk in your ski boots, you’ll be exhausted before you even meet your instructor. It doesn’t have to be that way! You can have it all: designer gear and the skills to carry your skis effortlessly.
You want to be part of the ski culture. You want to read a trail map and find your way to the upper lodge to meet your friends for lunch. You don’t want blisters on your shins because you didn’t know how to buckle your boots properly or picked the wrong socks. You don’t want to hold the group back. You don’t want to need ski patrol assistance.
Are you scared? Do you go for your fears anyway? Fortunately, you and I have choices. You can choose to stay in your fear and stay at the lodge, or even not come to the mountains. Or you can choose to show up in your proper gear in your curious, joyful, and courageous mind. Here, we don’t compete. We honor where you’re at. You’re welcome to learn a new sport as slow as you desire. We’re here to support you.
It’s complicated. But here, it’s simplified. My goal is to help one more skier enjoy Mother Nature. Skiing shouldn’t be out of reach just because it’s complicated. You don’t need to be a black diamond skier to enjoy the mountains. If you choose to stay on the bunny hill all day, every day, you’re a skier. You don’t need to prove anything to anyone.
I’m your instructor for the Snow 101 course at SkierTV.com. I’m Ceylan—pronounced Jay-lawn—and I’ve been a certified professional ski instructor since 2012. Based in Park City, Utah, movement and nature are healing for my body and soul. In my world, I strive to create diverse, inclusive, and equitable opportunities around my passion: skiing. That’s what drives me every morning, and that’s why I created and teach the Snow 101 course. Life is a “choose your own adventure” game. I invite you to choose skiing and become as much of a skier as your heart desires.
You CAN learn to ski!
